Polling places moved in Oakdale
Polling locations in Oakdale previously located at two different schools have been moved to a new site.

Voters in Precinct 6 will now vote at the Oakdale Discovery Center, 4444 Hadley Ave., rather than at Castle Elementary School. Voters in Precinct 8 will now vote at Guardian Angels Church, 8260 Hudson Blvd., rather than at Skyview.

Registered voters will receive notification from Washington County before the primary election held in early fall. Voters will only need to re-register if their name and/or address have changed, not as a result of the change in polling place.

Up until several years ago, almost all of the city's polling places were assigned to schools, which offer ample interior space. With this most recent change, all but one of the city's polling places will be in area churches, which offer not only the space needed for the election day activities but also generous parking. In addition, the regular activities and programs at the schools on election days will not need to be modified.

"The goal of these changes is to make the voting day process even easier for our residents," said Mayor Carmen Sarrack. "There is a high level of activity at schools throughout the day, without factoring in elections, so using locations where the facilities and parking lots aren't already in high demand on election day makes it easier on everyone."

I'm a bit uncomfortable with voting in a church. I wouldn't usually think much of it but last year I voted under a banner that said "Standing together in Christ". Which could be understood as a rallying call for a specific voting choice.
My hope is that churches will fully respect the scope of it's community it is serving in.
Frankincense does smell very nice though.
