Credit cards stolen from employees at Lake Elmo Elementary

A woman, described by the Washington County Sheriff's Office as white, middle-aged with blond or light brown hair, is suspected of stealing credit cards out of purses left unattended at Lake Elmo Elementary School Oct. 13.

According to a press release from the sheriff's department, this may not be the first time she entered an area school, rummaged through teachers' property and swiped credit cards. Investigators think she did the same thing Sept. 30 at Mahtomedi High School.

In the Lake Elmo Elementary case, it is believed that the woman stole credit cards from two teachers' purses sometime in the afternoon.

The suspect was recorded using the stolen credit cards at an area store.

According to the press release, the suspect(s) may be driving a maroon Dodge Stratus or similar-looking vehicle.

"At no time during this incident were our students in any danger ... the suspect in this crime did not have contact with any of our students and focused her attention on empty classrooms and unoccupied areas of the building," said Carissa Nelson, communications coordinator for Stillwater Area Public Schools.

"Our schools have safety and security measures in place, and many of these measures are proving helpful in the investigation of this crime," Nelson said.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff's Office Tip Line at (651) 430-7850, or visit the WCSO Web site at wcsheriff.net/tipline.
